#Assessment – Big questions

“Hands up if you…”
Nutshell
Allow learners to put up their hands to answer a question. Sometimes this method does have a use!
How to do this
This is a useful tool to check a whole class. It should be used for this and then followed with other deeper questioning methods (see other tips for these techniques).
Pose a question to the whole class eg: “Put up your hand if you are confident that you can explain how X works“.
How it works for you
You can quickly and easily see from the number of hands that go up just how well your learners have grasped a topic. This lets you do two things;
- Choose to question students more closely (see Blooms taxonomy & questioning tips).
- Decide to change the lesson plan(s) in order to support or stretch and challenge learners properly.
